Welcome to our Nursery (Little Lions)
Here at Sprites Nursery we pride ourselves in supporting children in their journey to become confident, resilient and independent learners.
We support them to build trusting relationships with teachers through taking time to listen to what the children are saying and planning activities around the children’s interests. Children are keen to share their experiences and ideas and ask many questions. We have a strong emphasis on communication and encourage children to talk not only to adults but to each other. To learn how to take turns, share and resolve conflicts.
Each week we will begin by reading a high-quality book and have some activities planned around it. The children are given the opportunity to retell and join in with stories and can recall facts from non-fiction books verbally, through play and in mark making.
We offer an environment which encourages children to challenge themselves and gain a deeper understanding of the world around them. Our resources stimulate curiosity as they consider all of the senses and allow children of all abilities to move forward in their learning. There are long periods of free flow, uninterrupted play which gives the children the opportunity to complete tasks which they have set for themselves and become excited about learning. As the children play, adults interact with them, allowing the children to take the lead whilst carefully thinking about what they say, planning in the moment to ensure that the children are achieving new goals.
Each morning we will have a short focused group session to support the learning of curriculum areas. Resources are sometimes used to make the session more interactive and to support the children in understanding different concepts. These activities help the children to become school ready as they are asked to maintain attention and listen carefully. At the end of the session we come together as a group again to share our favourite stories and rhymes.
Because we are part of Sprites school, we are lucky enough to have access to the school's facilities. We use the Forest school’s area where we can explore nature, go on bear hunts and build dens. The library where we can enjoy reading with friends and we can take part in whole school events, such as the Fireworks display and Easter egg hunt.
